Cubs Need Outdoor Space

The District’s Phase 1 plan for “Bexley’s Next 100 Years” would remove the only open outdoor space at Cassingham and in Central Bexley.

There are other options that build needed space for our middle schoolers without harming our kids and community.

This hurts our school, our property values, and most importantly our kids.

Impact on Elementary School

The Plan calls for the permanent removal of the outdoor playfield for Cassingham’s approximately 500 elementary students.

The District concedes that the remaining outdoor space would be insufficient for outdoor play, requiring students to borrow the turf high school football field for recess.

Our kids would have the most limited access to outdoor space of all comparable elementary schools in Central Ohio. No peer school lacks access to a dedicated outdoor playfield.

No Open Space Left in Central Bexley

The Cassingham field is used by kids and families every day. There no other outdoor spaces near Cassingham or in all of Central Bexley.

Without it, Central Bexley would be the only comparable suburban neighborhood without space for basic outdoor recreation.

The next-closest outdoor fields to the school are in North and South Bexley, 15-20 minute walks across Main or Broad.

Home Values

A frequently cited statistic is that homes near parks and outdoor space command an 8–10% price premium.

With the loss of the only outdoor space in Central Bexley, our neighborhood would be uniquely deprived of this benefit among peer suburban communities.

Our homes would become less valuable - at the same time our taxes would go up.

Many parents and community members are unaware that the Board’s proposal would leave our kids with no open outdoor space.

Help make sure Bexley knows what is at stake.
